Re: The ground level - in and out
Good morning!
I was too busy at my post production job with movie footage the last 2 weeks to check in. Looks like I missed everyone getting sick
, and the return of Tsatu?!
Tsatu's return (that sounds like an Avatar Sequel title, or another Avatar comic book) and mention of the Toronto meetup got me thinking. In only 9 more months we can finally say "Avatar 2 comes out this year!"
I wonder if the AvatarMeet group will organize the 2020 meetup in December to coincide with the new film? We're already saving up movie points in anticipation of seeing the new movie several times, although I probably won't have time to see it in the theater 25 times like with the first one. Ato & I would love to host another Avatar meetup, I just wish we had the funds to fly everyone in for it. We're thinking of visiting Disney's Pandora again on April 8, 2020, which is exactly 10 YEARS since our Avatars were mated on Naviblue!
It's hard to believe that next month will be 9 years. Our lives have changed so much in those years! I hope more of our lost tsmukans and tsmukes from Naviblue start re-surfacing over the next year or so. For those who left Naviblue before the site hack, will they be able to find New Hometree?

Morning
@Elyris: yeah, not perfect, but definitely better...
@Nawm: I have no idea if they'll be able to find this place here. Of course there's the link left in the facebook group, but apart from that? Guess we can just hope that google or whatever search engine they'll use will bring them to this place here. I'd love to see a thriving community again.

Re: The ground level - in and out
Exhausting work day.
Frickin' spider in my car - in front of me! (NONONONONONONONO)
Dentist appointment in a few minutes.
Still 3 busy days to go this week and no sleep anywhere in sight.
*sigh*
If we really manage a new meetup I will be self-centered and suggest it here. The nature is nice and the state of being might be a bit of a culture shock (which can be quite entertaining). (But I have very low hopes forthat.)

Re: The ground level - in and out
At the beginning of this our little site, DIana gave me some sort of list of old users... and I emailed certain number of confirmed "sane" people (which does not imply the rest was insane, but we were focusing on those we know). The owner of the original naviblue (Phana J CLoth) was 199% NON-cooperative. He didn't even say "make pancakes off"... simply ignored Diana's or my messags to discuss the issues, or to even sell the data or something like that
If anyone has any ideas of how to let the people know, let me know.

Re: The ground level - in and out
Well, yeah. We all have reasons for what we do. However, what happens after that makes all the difference. If would be perfectly fine by me if he said "Hey, dude, leave me alone, I am not interested in cooperating or handing over the data, case closed". We are both IT professionals. It would be highly appreciated not to waste each other-s time and energy, as simple as that.
Now, what can we do?
1. We have a Facebook page
2. In the past, we had contacts with friendly forums. We have some 18-20 months to revive these and exchange, again, referral links
3. I am planning to invest in a paid forum software. Not sure yet what the best option would be, there are few candidates. Priorities are security, resistance to hacking, availability of themes/skins, quality of support etc
4. If the server becomes overloaded (in a year or two), then we would have to go for a much better web hosting. That could be financed by donors, by me (if I can afford) or by adverts (if we decide to display them
5. Better forum software, combined with better hosting, combined with site certificate (HTTPS...) would help with the SEO which would, in return, give us better search engine rankings
6. Avatar fans gatherings would be a good place to advertise. I, most likely, will not be able to attend, but others will.
7. One of things which will have to be re-enabled is to allow search spiders to cruise forum content, which make us more discoverable.
8. We will need more personnel, to call it that way. If forum has 10 members, I can alone make sure everyone is comfortable and that everybody behaves well
However, if we start getting hundreds or even thousands of active members, if even 1% makes troubles, I will need help in the form of active moderators and/or admins
9. If we introduce any sort of paid adverts, the income generated will be used to cover the running expenses (domain registration, hosting, subscriptions for any software we may use etc). Anything more than that would go to charity. I am not interested in personal gains from this. I had to make it clear.
Feel free to throw your ideas at me

Re: The ground level - in and out
Evening
Well .... last week I had quite the cold and on top of that worked overhours each day, so I go a little unconcentrated when I was home in the evening.
Tried to warm up something for dinner in the oven, wanted to get it out and miscalculated the .. uh .. trajectory of my hand. Long story short: the top of my left index finger made the aquaintance of the (quite red glowing at that point) metal heating coil in the 'headspace' of the oven ... I actually was surprised of how fast human flesh get's crispy and how much it really looked like overgrilled pork. Frist the pain wasn't evne that bad (cooled it and but a band aid on it of course), but I could already see a small chunk of my flesh missign and the surrounding area shriveled and black. It got more fun over the next few days and it'll be an interesting scar for hte next two decased or so ( Í have to give my thanks to the lady at the pharmacy who recommended an antiseptic healing cream - that helped quite a bit).
I apologize, but I will read flighters post tomorrow, when my brain my work again properly (if this darn project isn't finally off my desk by the end of this week I am going to collapse).

Re: The ground level - in and out
@Elyris: ouch... that sounds extremely painful.
Hope it gets better soon and the scar won't be too bad. Tip of the index finger is a bad spot - not that any spot is good for burning like that
Morning
@flighter: I think we'll have to see how user numbers grow once Avatar 2 is out and people go looking for a new virtual home. Anything that gets us up in the search engine ranking is good, I guess. We'll just have to be careful with advertisements I think. They work fine until a certain amount, but as soon as companies come along with blinking stuff, moving stuff, movies in the background or (worst of all) overlays my adblocker comes in full swing... I just can't stand it and it might shoo away a few people.
